    IMPORTANT SAFE GUARDS
    When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:

    7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.

    SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS
    A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. The use of an extension cord is not recommended.
    IMPORTANT WARNINGS

    CAUTION HOT SURFACES: This appliance generates heat and escaping steam during use. Proper precautions must be taken to prevent the risk of burns, fires, or other injury to persons or damage to property.
    CAUTION: This appliance is hot during operation and retains heat for some time after turning off. Always use oven mitts when handling hot materials and allow metal parts to cool before cleaning. Do not place anything on top of the appliance while it is operating or while it is hot.
    1. All users of this appliance must read and understand this Owner’s Manual before operating or cleaning this appliance.
    2. The cord to this appliance should be plugged into a Rated Voltage AC electrical outlet only.
    3. If this appliance begins to malfunction during use, immediately unplug the cord. Do not use or attempt to repair the malfunctioning appliance.
    4. Do not leave this appliance unattended during use.

    CAUTION – MATERIAL DAMAGE
     Place the appliance on a level surface that is resistant to heat and splashes. Do not place it on a surface that could become hot, e.g. hot plates or next to the flame of a gas range.
     To avoid damaging the non-stick coating of the plates, use only heat-resistant wooden or plastic utensils to remove food.
     Never use abrasive cleaning products, oven cleaners or scratching implements for cleaning. The non-stick coating might become damaged.
     The appliance is fitted with non-slip rubber feet. Furniture is often coated with various varnishes and synthetic substances and treated with a number of different preservative agents. Some of these products may contain substances that corrode and soften the rubber feet. The feet may then discolour the surface. If necessary place a non-slip mat under the appliance.

    PRIOR TO FIRST USE

    IMPORTANT: Before using for the first time, operate the appliance without food in order to burn off residues on the Cooking Plates.

    CAUTION: To avoid burns, caution should be taken when handling the Arabic Bread Maker
    1. Carefully unpack and remove all packaging and materials.
    2. Wipe all surfaces with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Never immerse in water.
    3. To burn off residues on the Cooking Plates, it will be necessary to operate the unit for a few minutes before initial use. Do not add food or oil during this time.

    WARNING – Risk of fire or burns
     Position the appliance so that it is free-standing for use, never against a wall or in a corner, against curtains or similar.
     Be sure that nobody touches the hot appliance surfaces while the appliance is on or while cooling.

    4. Remove the plug from the wall socket and unfold the sandwich maker.
    5. Allow the appliance to cool.
    6. When completely cooled, wipe the plates with a damp cloth.

    The appliance can be used in two different positions:
    • Closed-cover position – Cooks the food on the top and bottom at the same time.
    • Open-flat position – Gives you a larger cooking surface. Cooks the food on the bottom only. Food may need to be turned. See steps 1 and 2 below for setting up the unit to the open-flat position.

    Getting Ready to Cook

    1. Before preheating the cooking plates, lightly brush each plate with vegetable oil or lightly spray with non-stick cooking spray.
    2. Always preheat the appliance in the closed position and before placing any food on the cooking plates.
    3. Close the appliance and plug the unit into a standard wall outlet. The Power On Indicator Light comes on and stays on until the unit is unplugged. The green Ready Light comes on when the unit reaches the cooking temperature.
    4. Once preheated, open the appliance and place food to be cooked on the cooking plate.
    CAUTION: Plates are hot, use an oven mitt and carefully lift the Lid to check or remove food.
    5. Close the appliance. The green Ready Light will cycle on and off
    IMPORTANT: Should grease or oil overflow during use, unplug unit and let it cool completely. Remove the cooking plates and clean the grease or oil before further use.
    6. Use the chart below as a guide to cooking times and appliance positions. Check minimum time and watch food closely as actual cooking times may vary.
    7. When finished cooking, unplug the unit and let it cool completely before attempting to remove the plates for cleaning as described in the chapter "Care and Cleaning".


    WARNING – Risk of scalds from emanating steam
     Never reach at the sides of the appliance while baking!
     If necessary, use a pot holder to open.

    CONDITIONING COOKING PLATES

    The Cooking Plates should be conditioned before each use, and following each cleaning. To condition, lightly coat the Cooking Plates with solid vegetable shortening. DO NOT USE SPRAY-ON OIL PRODUCTS.
    To protect the premium quality non-stick Cooking Plates, use only plastic, nylon or wooden utensils. Carefully follow suggested cleaning procedures. After a time, if sandwiches show signs of sticking, recondition your unit.


    CARE AND CLEANING
    CAUTION: Unplug from electrical outlet and allow to cool thoroughly before cleaning. Never immerse appliance in water or other liquids.
    This appliance contains no user-serviceable parts. Refer service to qualified service personnel.

    1. Brush Cooking Plates with clean, soft pastry brush or cloth.
    2. Do not use steel wool or coarse scouring pads. Remove stubborn stains with a plastic mesh puff or pad. For best results, use only products with directions stating that it is safe for cleaning non-stick cooking surfaces.
    3. Remove the cooking plates. Wash each in sudsy water, and dry thoroughly. The plates may also be placed in a dishwasher.
    4. The exterior finish should be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft, damp cloth: dry thoroughly.


    STORAGE

    Unplug unit and allow to cool. Never store Sandwich Maker while it is hot or still plugged in. Never wrap cord tightly around appliance. Do not put any stress on cord where it enters unit, as this could cause cord to fray and break.

    Do not immerse in Water or Any Liquid
